Ken Claffey Named to HPCwire’s “People to Watch 2025” List

(Source: HPCWire): VDURA CEO recognized as a transformative force in data infrastructure and AI-HPC convergence

VDURA is proud to share that our CEO and President, Ken Claffey, has been named one of HPCwire’s “People to Watch” for 2025, an annual list spotlighting the most influential leaders shaping the future of high-performance computing (HPC).

This recognition marks a milestone not just for Ken personally, but for VDURA as a whole—a company built on a vision of delivering scalable, intelligent data infrastructure for both traditional HPC and next-generation AI workloads.

From Panasas to VDURA: A Strategic Evolution

In his interview with HPCwire, Ken reflected on the strategic transformation from Panasas to VDURA. “This change is more than just a rebrand—it marks a fundamental evolution in how we deliver value to our customers,” Ken noted. “VDURA reflects our commitment to high performance and high reliability—the velocity and durability required by today’s most data-intensive industries.”

The rebrand also signals a broader industry shift: one where software-first architecture, AI readiness, and intelligent orchestration are essential to navigating the increasingly blurred lines between HPC and AI.

Addressing Scale—Without the Tradeoffs

Ken emphasized VDURA’s role in solving HPC’s scalability conundrum—not just expanding storage, but scaling performance, reliability, and simplicity in parallel. The platform’s hybrid, scale-out architecture allows organizations to independently grow flash and HDD capacity, while maintaining system resilience even as workloads increase in complexity and volume.

“Unlike traditional systems that degrade in reliability as they grow, VDURA is designed to become more reliable at scale,” Ken said. “It’s a different way of thinking about infrastructure—one that rewards growth with greater efficiency and durability.”

The AI-HPC Convergence: Opportunity and Responsibility

A recurring theme in Ken’s leadership—and in VDURA’s roadmap—is the convergence of AI and HPC. As AI-driven workloads take center stage across scientific and commercial domains, the demand for smart, flexible, and fault-tolerant infrastructure continues to rise.

Ken shared: “Today’s storage systems must do more than store data—they must intelligently orchestrate it, eliminate bottlenecks, and adapt dynamically to ever-changing workloads.” For VDURA, that means investing in a future-proof platform that evolves alongside the needs of AI-enhanced HPC applications.

Looking Ahead: Innovation with Intent

As fields like computational fluid dynamics, CAE, chemistry, and physics become increasingly automated and accelerated through AI, VDURA is positioning itself to be the data engine behind the breakthroughs.

“Our goal,” Ken explained, “is to build infrastructure that performs not just on Day 1, but on Day 2000 and beyond. We’re playing the long game.”

A CEO Who Lifts—In Every Sense

Outside of work, Ken is known for his passion for powerlifting and coaching his daughters’ soccer team. Whether in the gym or on the field, he brings the same principles that define his leadership style at VDURA: consistency, resilience, and the drive to improve every day.

“Powerlifting isn’t just a hobby—it’s a mindset,” he shared. “Progress happens one rep at a time, just like in business.”
