Our journey began as Panasas, founded in 2000 by Garth Gibson, the co-inventor of RAID and creator of the first Linux-based parallel file system, PanFS. From the start, our mission was clear: to redefine data storage with a focus on high-performance, scalable solutions.
In 2004, we launched our first high-performance storage system, setting a new benchmark for reliability and speed. Over the years, our innovations continued, with key advancements like RAID6 + Triple Parity, ensuring data protection without sacrificing performance. By embracing commodity hardware and implementing dynamic data placement, we gave customers greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness.
By 2020, PanFS 9.0 represented a leap forward with flash optimization and further advancements in data management. These milestones paved the way for our next evolution.
In 2023, under the leadership of Ken Claffey as CEO, we embarked on a bold transformation. Recognizing the growing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC), we shifted our focus to provide purpose-built solutions for these rapidly evolving industries.
This transformation brought the rebrand to VDURA — Velocity Meets Durability. Our name reflects our commitment to delivering ultra-fast data access with enterprise-grade resilience. We introduced a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, expanded our AI capabilities, and invested heavily in engineering and R&D.
